Hybrid Camera Buyer's Guide part-1

Hybrid Cameras

Image Quality: Med-High, Speed: Med, Flexibility: Med

Type of camera is still relatively new. Panasonic G1, the first type in this class, was launched late 2008, only about 25 months ago. At that time, still requires the user DSLR viewfinder and a peek of the large. Panasonic G1 eliminates the optical viewfinder, remove the mirror on the inside, and automatically reduce the size of the camera. The workings of this camera is no different with DSLR-like compact cameras. But the difference, the camera lens is removable.

Feature to note in this camera class:

Lens Options
All cameras in this class was launched with a new lens standard, because it's compatibility and availability of the lens is one of the main factors. Micro Four-Thirds consortium (MFT) which was developed by Olympus and Panasonic can be said to have the widest choice because they are first present in this class. MFT lens options are available from 7mm (14mm FOV) to 300mm (600mm FOV). Also available lens Olympus 14-150mm ultrazoom (28-300mm FOV) and the Panasonic 14-140mm (28-280mm FOV). These three other brands still have very little choice of lenses, so you should make sure whether the lens is available in the market will be sufficient for your needs. Keep in mind that for the use of video, it takes a lens that is silent. Therefore, before buying check first whether the noise from the motor into the lens while recording movies.
Vibration dampers
Vibration damper is very important for images and video. Fortunately, this feature is available on all types of hybrid camera. However, there is still a special note. Panasonic, Samsung and Sony chose to implement the vibration damping on the lens. This system ensures cooler sensor for continuous use, such as video recording. However, not all lenses are manufactured both manufacturers are equipped with vibration dampers. Instead, Olympus chose vibration damping in the sensor. This means the vibration damper can be activated regardless of the type of lens is mounted.
The camera screen
Due to its small size, most are not equipped with a hybrid camera viewfinder. Therefore, the LCD screen into a major facility for any operation of the camera. No heroics of course, if we expect the highest quality on this screen. The high resolution of 640 × 480 pixels can be found on the Samsung NX and Sony NEX. Samsung chose AMOLED while Sony choose a conventional LCD, but both are as bright. Sony slightly superior because the screen is a flip-out type. Fourth Panasonic cameras are also worthy of praise. Panasonic screen resolution is slightly lower than the above two manufacturers, but the screen is touch-sensitive type.
Hot Shoe Accessories & Options
With interchangeable lens system, a hybrid camera is quite interesting as start-up camera for learning photography. Therefore, no one to further explore the compatibility of accessories. Sony NEX is probably the most backward in this list because it is not equipped with a conventional hotshoe so not a lot of accessories that are compatible with it. These four other brands have a diverse selection of accessories, but only Olympus has a flash with good availability in stores.

Currently, the choice of the type that is available is more than in 2008, although it is still very little. Because only five manufacturers that produce this type of camera, we will describe this class of camera per manufacturer.
Olympus

Type is the latest Olympus Pen E-P2 and Pen E-PL1. Both are almost no different except for the casing material and built-in flash is available. Perhaps surprising that this type more affordable, the E-PL1, it has more features. However, the shape of this camera is less attractive than E-P2.

Unlike the Olympus DSLR line, its line of hybrid cameras called Micro Four-Thirds (MFT). Thanks to its collaboration with Panasonic cameras in the development of standards and compatibility with various accessories Olympus DSLR, Olympus can say that the MFT is the most interesting hybrid camera today. In addition, the E-PL1 is also the only camera in this class are valued below the 600 dollars in the market.

Olympus E-P2 with viewfinder accessories

Performance of E-P2 and E-PL1, including good. Both cameras have autofocus is quite fast response and good image quality at high ISO. Both are also equipped with a vibration damper on the sensor and the hot-shoe. In the hot-shoe, you can pair a variety of special accessories MFT, such as viewfinder or mic. Hot-shoe is also fully compatible with all Olympus flash.

Olympus E-PL1

Conclusion: E-P2 is nice, but do not give a better value than the sale price. In contrast, with 6 million dollars fund, Olympus E-PL1 can provide more features than the worth of DSLR. There is no harm in trying this camera if the price is included in your budget range. However, keep in mind that the camera is 1 year old. It is likely in mid-2011, Olympus will launch a new type in the line of its MFT.
Panasonic

Panasonic GH2 with touch screen

This year, Panasonic launched the four types of MFT cameras and our personal opinion, deserve to go fourth in the Top 5 position in the class of hybrid camera. However, the most interesting are the two latest cameras, the Lumix Lumix GH2 and GF2. Both cameras boast Full HD video recording (1920x1080pixel) and touch screen in the size of the camera that is completely different. GH2 larger and have more features. This camera also uses a new 16 megapixel sensor, in contrast with the Lumix G 12-megapixel still another.

Panasonic GF2 is a further development of the GF1 is very popular. With the function keys to move a lot of touch screen, Panasonic can further reduce the size of the camera. GF2 is now the second most petite hybrid camera, only slightly larger than the Sony NEX-5. GF2 is also very good performance, one of the fastest in the class of hybrid camera.

Panasonic G2 and G10, which was launched in early 2010 is very similar of form and feature. Both are just different on-screen feature. G2 has a touch screen that can be rotated, while the G10 is equipped only regular screen. They are only able to record HD video (1280 × 1080 pixels) with built-in mono mic, while GF2 and GH2 equipped stereo mic. However, besides differences in feature video, photos feature the G2/G10 have almost the same as GH2/GF2.

Conclusion: Panasonic GF2 is the most interesting of the four camera Lumix G to date. GF2 very small size, touch screen equipped with photo and video feature is excellent. However, the new GF2 is available on the market later in January 2011. The price is still yet to be announced. If you are looking for a camera the size of the medium, one of the three other Lumix G is the best option at this time. Customize it with your funds.
Ricoh

November 2009 Ricoh introduced the GXR, a unique modular camera. At Ricoh GXR, you can not only replace lenses, but also the camera sensor. The concept of separating the GXR camera body, which consists of the screen and grip, with the imaging module, which consists of sensor and lens unit. Thanks to this modular system, the size of the sensor can be tailored to the specifications of the lens. In addition, the change is much easier and safer than dust. P10 is the latest type module with 28-300mm lens and A12 module with 28mm lens f / 2.5.

Conclusion: Innovation needs to be admired Ricoh, Ricoh GXR is a unique camera that resolves many problems in the hybrid camera system. However, high prices and poor distribution makes the Ricoh GXR unattractive.
